California Team
Bob Sanders has been serving the poor of Mexico since 1984 when he led groups from Azusa Pacific University on short-term outreaches. In September 1992, with the support of several ministry partners, he founded Baja Christian Ministries. His commission is to build up and equip God's people for works of service among the poor (Eph. 4: 11-12). His passion is to stir many into love and good deeds (Heb. 10:24-25), and to build a spiritual network--a vanguard army--to reach one community after another for the Lord Jesus Christ. There is much scripture that deals with God's heart in serving the poor, but the words of Isaiah 58 have been closest to Bob's heart and is the foundation of the Ministry. "The poor have few earthly advocates, and we as the body of Christ, must be their voice and serve them through Christ's love," says Bob. He sees his main role as sharing the vision of Baja Christian Ministries with groups and individuals throughout the United States and Canada. Part of that function is fund raising and to provide oversight to the ministry. Bob is open to share the Baja vision, ministry stories, and scriptural exhortation in your congregation. He can also personally meet with you if your interest is sparked. He is joined in this ministry with his wife, Janet, and four children: Rebekah, Joshua, Timothy, and Joseph.
Cheryl faithfully serves as BCM's administrator and is the backbone of the daily ministry operations. She schedules the team outreaches and coordinates the myriad of details necessary for U.S. and Canadian groups serving in Mexico. Her steadiness, persistence, and solid commitment to her God-given role brings a great stabilizing effect to the ministry. Give her a call. She is ready to help make your ministry experience the most efficient and rewarding. She and her three children reside in Chino Hills, California.
Mexico Team
Hector Rubio is the Mexico Field Director and oversees most of the outreach experience for groups and individuals serving in Mexico. Originally a recipient of one of the homes built through BCM, Hector has become tireless and dedicated leader. He coordinates most of the construction preparation in Mexico, meets groups at the border, and provides group assistance as necessary . Hector is soft-spoken, but has a great deal of wisdom and insight in structuring effective ministry in Mexico. Hector has also become an effective evangelist and often travels outside of the Tijuana area on extended outreaches to penetrate Baja with the gospel. Hector and his wife, Lorena, and five children make their home in Pipilia. Visit Pastor Hector Webpage for more information and pictures.
Sergio Gomez has initiated, and been a vital part of numerous ministries and served thousands of people in Baja since 1962. He has also been a close friend and partner with Bob Sanders for over ten years. Having spent most of his life after his ordination in the Tijuana area, Sergio possesses invaluable experience and insight, and compassionately serves the poor. During his years in and around Tijuana, he has founded orphanages, rehabilitation centers, pastored churches, and has run large ministries. He has been a mentor to countless leaders, young people, and ministry interns. Through his great sense of humor and personal testimony, he has shared his life with thousands of project participants. Pastor Alvin Morales, and his wife Patti, planted a church in Valle Verde in 1993 and received a BCM home. BCM groups, among others, helped construct the church building and medical clinic. Through God's blessing, and faithful work by his servants Alvin and Patti, the church has grown to 500 members and Alvin plans to plant other churches as God leads. Once on the peripheral edge of Tijuana, Valle Verde has undergone tremendous change and growth, and the area remains an outreach focus for project groups. Presently, he is helping with a church plant in Diez de Mayo. He and members of his congregation are major team members in our crusades in various communities
Jorge Castaneda, and his wife Bertha, are pastoring our new church in the coastal colony of Cumbres located in western Tijuana. The church was founded with the help of Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena which provides continued support through BCM, and is building the church and parsonage. Jorge has extensive experience working with orphans at a local orphanage and has a real burden to reach youth, as well as adults. Playing the guitar, he and his family members also play praise and worship music at crusades and rallies. The church in Cumbres is only a little more than a year old. They currently have about 13 families and about 70 in attendance.
