Border Crossing Information - News

REMINDER - AS OF TODAY FEBURARY 1ST, 2008 - ALL PERSONS NOT POSSESSING A PASSPORT, SENTRI, NEXUS OR FAST CARD ARE REQUIRED TO PRESENT AN OFFICIAL (STAMPED)  BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO CROSS THE BORDER!!!

PASSPORT CARDS VS PASSPORTS - A decision has finally been made on Passports vs Passport Cards.  Passport Cards have been approved and applications for one are available as of today February 1, 2008.

Please advise all persons in your group that they will require either a Passport Card or a Passport as of June 1, 2008.  Although they are still listing summer 2008 as we really don't know what date that will be, should it end up being June, let's all just be ready for it.

In this website link below, you will find cost, and where you can apply.

Keep in mind when deciding which "passport option" you want that the Passport Card is for US, Canada and Mexico travel only by land.  You can not use the Passport Card to fly into Mexico or Canada and you can not use it to travel anywhere else in the world.  So ask you group participants to think carefully before they spend the money on a Passport Card instead.  $45 for the Passport Card for Canada and Mexico or $100 to travel the world.  www.travel.state.gov/pdf/ppt_pptCard.pdf  Both are valid for 10 years for adults, 5 years for children.

U.S. PASSPORT AND OTHER TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

bulletU.S. Passport: U.S. citizens may present a valid U.S. passport when traveling via air, land or sea between the U.S. and the aforementioned Western Hemisphere countries.
bullet The Passport Card: U.S. citizens may begin applying in advance for this new, limited-use, wallet-size passport card beginning February 1, 2008. We expect cards will be available and mailed to applicants in spring 2008. When available it will only be valid for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Bermuda.
bulletOther Accepted Travel Documents: SENTRI, NEXUS, FAST and the U.S. Coast Guard Mariner Document.  Members of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty traveling on orders are exempt from the passport requirement. DHS has more information on these travel documents.  This information may be seen at www.dhs.gov.

REMEMBER - please check documentation of all or your group participants before you leave for your trip to Mexico.
