The Power of Encouragement
by Bob Sanders
Strumming heartstrings
Making the widow's heart sing
Re-establishing joy and well-being
Calling out destiny
Nurturing potentiality
a jumpstart to a discouraged heart
Powerful to build up
filling thirsty heart cups
meeting desperate needs
ENCOURAGEMENT
Why is it so necessary?
Why is it so vital?
Why is this one of the most needed ministries?
Why is there such a deep and hungry call--
for this sweet gift called encouragement?
Of course we can bring a horse to water but can't make it drink
yet if the water of encouragement is received
with even a bit of faith and humility
the discouraged one surely won't sink...
Encouragement and faith mixed together create a healing remedy
as Holy Spirit joyfully rides in on it's wings
Encouragement in-speaks
courage when we are weak
When graveling in a horrible pit,
tempted to quit,
or despairing in trenches of doubt
Encouragement throws in it's rope
to pull us out
It establishes our feet on the Rock of hope,
ignites a new song of enthusiasm
and re-builds strong walls of optimism
It’s so powerful the devil shutters
as it cuts through despair like butter
It has power to water the thirsty and dry
and coupled with truth it can expose
and free us from lies
It helps silence satan the accuser
who taunts us to feel like a loser
It reconnects us at low points
when our faith seems out of joint,
putting us back on track
when we're flat on our back
and blind sided by enemy attack
When taken out by fear
it guards our rear
and shifts us back in gear
It's not a cookie and a pat on the head
It's tangible Barnabas Encouragement instead
If wisely and skillfully applied the balm of encouragement
has power to treat bitterness and resentment
it soothes wounded and broken humans
so let us then apply it when we can
Don't hold it back
from those who lack
It may be the rescue
Water others when they're down and blue
and refreshing waters will come back to you
Not only are we to stir one another into love and good deeds
but also to encourage one another in their need.
Sweet springs of encouragement bring hope and refreshment
Our Glorious King is pleased when the encouragement spring is opening
It is heartwarming, penetrating and invigorating
drawing Springs of His love, hope and compassion from above
Precious is His priceless anointing
A blessing we can all bring
Holy Spirit compassion and encouragement
coupled with prayerful evangelism will overcome
to usher large numbers of hopeless and broken ones into His kingdom
and like the story of the visionary, knight errant, Don Quixote
it has ability
to call forth the glorious Dulcenaea from the wretched Aldonza
as life and death are in the power of the tongue
Making the widow's heart sing
Re-establishing joy and well-being
Calling out destiny
Nurturing potentiality
a jumpstart to a discouraged heart
Powerful to build up
filling thirsty heart cups

as life and death are in the power of the tongue
some of the last become first, unsung heroes are sprung
those feeling insignificant realize their significance
Encouragement recognizes and values their importance
Encouragement recognizes and values their importance
Seeing, honoring and empowering
downcast lives through love, faith and vision-filled encouraging
calling out destiny, glory and productivity
What a mutual reward bestowed by our Lord!
Oh such opportunity!
A word fitly spoken, a tangible act of kindness
a noble and worthy quest
Yet, who will break the barriers
and be it’s carriers?
Who will honor the unseemly parts
and associate with the lowly?
holding out the cup of Living Water to help impart
a renewed hope of "life as it should be"
We can't do it all, but we can do our part
calling forth potential, destiny, and heavenly possibilities
in those of desperate need
Who will press their comfort zone and status quo limits
to help manifest God's heavenly benefits?
For encouragement can help every woman and man
to get up again
Embolden them to stand
Giving dignity and a helping hand
Helping them to understand
The great value of our King's salvation
As it rebuilds broken foundations
lifting spirit and giving heart
to those beaten down
fuel to try again and restart
as He lifts us from the ground
stimulating a rising bravery in our gut
to climb out and leave our miry ruts
to receive fresh grace
to run the race
as He pulls the downcast from the floor
opens new doors and unseen reservoirs
to become triumphant victors
more than conquerors
Encouragement
opens the flow to His Abundant Tap
It bridges and re-aligns
as branch and sap
to Jesus the True Vine
as faith seals the graft
It warms the frozen
and restores the war-torn chosen
It stirs and spurs
the fire of desire
It cheers on us to victory
It gives courage to press on in our destiny
stirring a smile to go that extra mile
as His Spirit jump-starts our hearts
to redeem our time, make the most of the opportunity
focus, run hard and do our part

A life lived in fear is a life half-lived
God has equipped us with a way to live life to the fullest
and given us a weapon to help us firmly stand
fear is no doubt the fiercest giant in the land
But when Encouragement in the Lord
But when Encouragement in the Lord
faces off with fear
the giant is slayed and the way is made clear
King David was amongst the bravest
yet 1 Samuel 30:6 says when David became greatly distressed
he encouraged himself in the Lord
The Word of God became David's indomitable sword
to take that giant down.
Holy Spirit filled sisters and brothers
let us excel in encouraging one another
From the well of encouragement let us conscientiously draw
for we may never know or see
that the cup of cold water we are holding
might be
the rescue, the final straw
one desperately needing reprieve
Jump-starting another to have heart to believe
to have courage enough to continue the journey
Let us then stir one another into love and good deeds
and be diligent and sensitive to encourage one another in need!
(Prov 11:25, 1Thes 5:11, 1Cor 12:22-27, Rom 12:16, Heb 10;:24-25)
