In Matthew 18:5, Jesus said, “And whoever welcomes one such little child in my name welcomes me.” Caring for the “least of these” (Matt. 25:40), including children, widows and orphans, the poor, is very important to God, and in James 1:27 it is even called “true religion”.

Project Little Child is a ministry of Baja Christian Ministries that serves children and families in the greater Tijuana area. Our mission is to provide a safe, welcoming, school-like environment for children to learn, teaching them academic skills while tending to the spiritual garden of their hearts.

What We Do:
We currently function from two different school campuses in Lomas del Valle and Plan Libertador. The schools, each called Refugio de Amor (Refuge of Love), operate Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our staff and teachers provide over 70 children with education and two meals daily, all completely free! Our combined team comprises 14 paid Mexican staff members and two American volunteers.

The Need:
The education system in Mexico is in crisis, and so many children are behind academically, lacking even basic literacy skills. Many parents and grandparents have attested to the blessing of the Refugio de Amor education center for their children/grandchildren, many of whom would be unsupervised while guardians are at work. Kids passed on year after year are now learning to read and receiving the individualized attention they need in smaller, more intimate classroom settings. When one visits our campuses, they encounter a vibrant, joy-filled atmosphere where kids feel welcome and safe.

Our Goal:
Our heart is to provide space for more children in more locations with this service; with God’s blessing, we can make this happen! The average cost for a child to attend our school is about $100 a month. Would you consider partnering with us to sponsor or co-sponsor a child and help us make a lasting difference in their life?
